An irreplaceable archive, saved by its community
When SFAI closed its doors in 2022 after more than 150 years, it left behind an extraordinary legacy — and an archive documenting the history of the school and the art of Northern California dating back to 1871. SFAI’s librarian-archivists, alumni, and community members came together to ensure this remarkable history remains accessible to artists, scholars, and the public.
